Premiere Social BallRoom NEWS

July 7, 2004

Dear Friends,

 On the Worldwide Web

We just wanted to bring you up to date on the activities occurring at Premiere Social Ballroom.  As of today I will be sending weekly updates (preferably on Mondays).  This first one is rather long as I want to be thorough.  The others to follow will become more abbreviated unless we have a “News Flash” to share.  You can also check our calendar on the web at www.PremiereSocial.com as new dates and activities are added.

If at any time you wish to pass on our weekly e-mails to others whom you feel would be interested in this information, we are happy for you to share it.

June’s Activities

We had a fabulous Student Showcase on June 25th with 10 performances – six by you and four from your staff.   As we video taped this event, those who performed this evening are entitled to a complimentary video.  Please let me know if you wish to take advantage of this.

On Sunday we rounded out the weekend with The Danny Miller (Blues) Band at our monthly Tea Dance (see below for more information on future Tea Dances).  It was fantastic to have so many of you here to celebrate with us!

Referrals from you

Thank you for your continued confidence in our studio and our staff by sharing your love for dance with people whom you know.  Remember our ‘Thank You’ to you is that when someone you have referred to us also accepts the Introductory Special of 5/$25 (couples count as one), you receive one complimentary session.  Please remind them that no partner is required for them to dance at Premiere Social Ballroom as we have qualified and certified instructors to accommodate dancers without partners.

New Instructors in Training and Staff Member

We are currently training three additional instructors:  Catherine Schardt , Catherine McMillan and Ian Jensen Lynn ’s daughter, Catherine , has also joined our staff to help with the office responsibilities and is in the beginning stages of training as a future competitor and performer.

Group Sessions

At Thursday’s group this week, we will be featuring the Rumba.  We hope to see you here if you do not already have plans for the evening.  Remember that group is every Tuesday and Thursday 6 – 7 p.m. and is followed by the Practice (Social) Party from 7 – 8:30 p.m.   You are always welcome to bring your family and / or friends as guests.

The first time visit is complimentary.  After the first visit we offer (a one time only purchase at this price) group package at 5/$30.  Thereafter, group packages are available at 5/$40 or 10/$75.  All group packages are priced per person.  Otherwise, it is $10 per person on the day of group for each visit.  Wouldn’t you agree that our package prices provide a great value for a few hours out dancing on the town?

Monthly Guest Parties

Speaking of bringing your family and friends to your ballroom, we have planned and scheduled the next monthly Student Showcase (a.k.a. Guest Party).    We have decided to really spice them up by giving them themes.    These Guest Parties will occur every 3rd Friday of the month.  We thank you in advance for your RSVP by the Wednesday prior as it allows us time to plan for sufficient desserts and beverages.  Please let us know

  • the number of people planning to attend,
  • the entrée or salad you would like to bring

We are working on creating suggested menu items for the potluck portion of the evening.  Of course, you are always welcome to bring your own ‘specialty’ recipes.  (We just love variety!)  The potluck dinner at June ’s party seemed to be a big hit, and we will continue this until you say you no longer want it.

You are welcome to dress for the occasion and allow yourself to really have fun with it.  The dress code is anywhere from costumed, to casual (if that makes you comfortable) to dressed and glitzy!  We want you to enjoy your time here, and first, foremost and above all else to have FUN dancing!

Friday, July 16th, 7 – 9:00 p.m.  It’s a Luau!  We already have the leis and a few other party items (grass skirts for the instructors).
Friday, August 20th (7 – 9:00 p.m.):  South of the Border.

Festival of the Arts in Oconomowoc

We are so pleased to announce that your ballroom staff has been invited to perform at Oconomowoc’s Festival of the Arts on August 21 @ 3:00 p.m.  We will be presenting a 30 minute show.  We hope that you will be able to join us for the occasion so that we can introduce you around too.  We realize that we are nothing without all of the support that you have shown us and we truly appreciate all of you!

The Ten Tones (Latin) Band, which played at our May Tea Dance, will also be performing at the FOTA.  We are verifying the day and time.  We are planning to be there for their performance to showcase them by dancing with the general public.  We would be happy to have you join us and again to show off what you have accomplished!

Cruises

For the fall or early winter, Jerry and I are also looking into a Salsa Cruise with the International Salsa World Dance Federation (ISWDF).  The ISWDF will be conducting dance sessions and offering entertainment.  Current cruises are scheduled for September 2004, November 2004, January 2005, March 2005 and May 2005.  Which month(s) would you prefer?

Consider these reasons for joining us on a cruise:

 1)  With several cruise dates to choose from, it is easy to pick one close to your usual vacation date.

2)  We are choosing from the largest and most luxurious cruise ships from a variety of cruise lines.  All of these ships have over 1,500 passengers with many wonderful facilities and activities, so dancing is only one part of the activities.

3)  Unlike normal vacations where it is easy to get lost in a crowd, with our group everyone gets to know each other.  You will be able to sit at any of our tables in the dining room and switch seats at every meal if you want to and the result is that you will soon be ‘vacationing with friends’.  (Note:  Non-dancing partners are very welcome to join our group.)

4)  Best of all, you will be able to enjoy Salsa dancing every night while exploring a different port each day.  Unlike other vacations where it is rare to dance, here you will have a balanced mix of many activities!

Competitions

Also in the works, we are looking at going to the following competitions:

*   in Chicago October 2004

*   The First Coast Classic DanceSport Championships in sunny Florida Sept. 30 – Oct. 2nd, 2004,

*   The US Pro-Am Championships (recognized by the NDCA) in the entertaining Las Vegas , NV Dec. 9 – 12th, 2004.

We would appreciate feedback regarding your interest level and whether or not you could see yourself attending as a competing participant or as a spectator.

NDCA’s Accreditation

Most of all Jerry , the staff and I are so excited to announce that, in addition to being members of Oconomowoc’s Chamber of Commerce, just last week we received our new DVIDA dance syllabus which we learned about at our recent Studio Management Training Seminar in Las Vegas in mid-June.  The DVIDA (Dance Vision International Dancer’s Association) system has been endorsed by the NDCA (National Dance Council of America) especially for independent studio owners.

With the DVIDA syllabus / system, which the international dance community recognizes and approves, there is no franchising or ‘thou shalt nots’ which tend to be associated with some corporate studios.  What Jerry has been teaching all along really is right in line with the DVIDA system.  He told me there are only slight variations in the opening and closing school figures.  It will be a cinch to incorporate it into the dances to which you have already been introduced.  We are so proud to carry these credentials and recognitions for your benefit and ours!

Additional enthusiasm flows in that we have added the International DanceSport which is recognized by the Imperial Society of Ballroom Dancing, London , England .

Studio Usage

Please remember that our facility is here for you to use at any time during operating hours.  If you wish to arrive early prior to your sessions just to give yourself some additional practice time, then we are happy to have you here!  We almost always have music playing or we can play your favorite piece.

Also in case you were not aware, we offer the ballroom facility for rental use for private receptions and / or parties.  We can comfortably seat 48 people at our glass topped bistro tables and sectional sofa lounge area; we have a kitchen with a full sized stove and refrigerator; and we can provide our staff supervised sound system to meet your needs.  Please do not hesitate to ask when our schedule can accommodate the needs of your family or friends for your special occasions.

Gift Certificates & Bridal Packages

Did you know that we have Gift Certificates as an added service to help you on these special occasions?  We have several members who came in because a certificate was given to them to celebrate a birthday, wedding, anniversary, graduation or prom.   All ages are welcome as long as the individual is able to follow and respond to instructions.

News Flash

A new service that Jerry , your Program Coordinator, and I are excited to offer to you as a member at no additional cost to you is our new dance video learning center.  It is as easy as checking out a video of preference from the front desk and viewing it here on our entertainment system.  This is an excellent opportunity for you to either review the dances to which you have already been introduced or to learn something new and practice it all here on our 1100 square foot dance floor.  Please ask your instructor for more details.

Tea Dances

Our 4th Sunday of the month 3 – 5 p.m. Tea Dances will resume in September.  We are lining up some great new local bands and will invite back others we have already hosted!  Sky Rock (guess what their genre is?), The Ten Tones (Latin), The Danny Miller Band (Blues), The Country Men (what’s the first clue, eh?) and many others have enjoyed playing here, or are looking forward to the opportunity to play, for a group that loves to dance to their music.

Kudos to you – the Heart of our Family Business

We have had so much fun getting to know all of you better and really love the family-friendly community atmosphere that is building here with you.  It is our great pleasure to see you when you are able to come for your dance sessions or even if you have ‘free’ time to stop by for a cup of coffee or to sip a soda with us.  We understand that most everyone is outdoors and busy enjoying the (sometimes) sunny and (sometimes) warm days of Wisconsin ’s summer, but we are here and still available for you Monday thru Friday 10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.  What better way to spend a rainy day or evening than learning the beginning or continuing steps of ‘something you have always wanted to do’!  And please remember, you doTake a Step up when you Step out with us!”
