Recent Activities:

This past Friday’s (May 13th) Social Dance, to thank the Alliance Group attendees for their participation since October, was a smashing hit!  We had 34 people here for an evening of fun, refresher instruction of the basic dance steps and lots of socializing!

Group this Week/Month:

Remember to mark your calendars.  This month’s Thursday Night Group Sessions features R * U * M * B * A!  We lay a solid foundation for you by introducing the basic beginning dance steps.  We have designed the subsequent weekly classes to review what you have previously learned, and then we continue with other new steps.

Our Guest Instructor for THIS Thursday evening is Miss Angela ThielAngela is very interested in becoming an instructor at Premiere Social Ballroom.  She has taken lessons for the last year, has ballroom competition experience and currently is employed teaching Poms for younger girls at the local YMCA.  Angela’s extensive dance background, enthusiasm and love for dance will definitely extend a host of opportunities to our dance curriculum.  Her energy seems boundless to me, as she too is a working mom and going to school pursuing her International Business degree!  She is only one year away from accomplishing that goal.  I am very pleased to introduce her to you!  Please continue reading below about Angela’s further involvement with Premiere Social Ballroom.

Mexican Fiesta Social Dance & Potluck Dinner:

Mark your calendar for THIS Friday’s monthly Social Dance & Guest Night (May 20th 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.)  Please call or email me with the finger food (appetizer or dessert) selection you are planning to bring so that I can coordinate it with others.  Premiere Social Ballroom will provide beverages.

Cost:  FREE to members; $5 non-members.

This event is open to the public, so please invite those whom you think might enjoy a Fantástico Night Out for FUN exercise and even better socializing!

Hip Hop For Teens Summer Camp:

Our latest achievement is the opportunity to offer something ALL of the kids have been waiting for!  Hip Hop class at Premiere Social Ballroom!  Angela Thiel, mentioned above, will be our class instructor and choreographer.  We are scheduling this class for two sessions two times this summer, and designed it for 11 – 14 year olds (beginners 8 – 11 a.m.) and 15 – 18 year olds (intermediate Noon – 3 p.m.)

A minimum registration of 8 dancers is required per session for each time slot to hold this class but is limited to 24 students.  The last day to register is June 24thIf the response is good, we will add a regular weekly Hip Hop class to our curriculum in the following months.

Session 1:    July 12-15th & July 19th-22nd
Performances for the Family on Friday evening July 22nd

7:30 p.m. (Beginners)

8 p.m. (Intermediate)

Session 2:    Aug. 2nd-5th & Aug. 9th-12th
Performances for the Family on Friday evening August 12th

7:30 p.m. (Beginners)

8 p.m. (Intermediate)

Cost is $240 for eight days of instruction for 3 hrs per day.  This includes your dancer’s Friday Night Performance Attire (Shirt & Pants for the entire group) and a healthy, energizing snack at break time!  (No refunds or credits for missed or unused sessions.)

Shoes specific to Hip Hop Dance are optional and found at various online dance websites.  I “Googled” for ‘Hip Hop Dance Wear’ and found this example, www.discountdance.com – click on ‘shoes’, then ‘dance sneakers’.  Prices vary from $20.90 (child’s) and up.  For flexibility and ease of movement, Angela suggests a shoe that does not have a solid arch.  But, this is NOT a requirement!  Regular tennis shoes will work.

Beginners Middle Eastern Belly Dance Class:

By Thursday this week, I will have the start date for our upcoming 8 week Monday night (8:00 p.m.) Belly Dance class!

Our instructor, Dawn Wellsfry, has previous dance experience in Hawaiian and Tahitian since age 13.  Her first teacher, Alice Knudsen, taught at the Greenfield Recreational Center for many years. Ms. Knudsen frequently traveled to Hawaii to research dances and costumes, but has since passed away.

Using her dancing as a talent, Dawn won the Miss Whitewater Pageant, and went on to place as one of the ten finalists in the Miss Wisconsin Pageant.

Dawn has been studying the Middle Eastern Belly Dance for 5 years as of this September.  She has pursued further education and instruction in this genre by taking several weekend seminars offered by International Belly Dancers.

Cost:  $10/session (walk-in) or $75 paid and registered in advance.  No refunds or credits for missed or unused sessions.

A minimum registration of 8 is required to begin this class.

Attire:  Exercise apparel is worn, with ballet-type soft-soled shoes or slippers (which can be ordered either on-line or from dance catalogues available at our studio).  You may purchase Isotoner slippers, which work well for this, from T.J. Maxx, Kohl’s, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

Eventually, everyone wants a hip scarf (with the coins and beads).  There are a variety of inexpensive internet belly dance supply websites, or can be purchased at the Egyptian stores at Mayfair or Southridge Malls.

What to Expect from this class:

Class starts with warm-up exercises for approximately 15 minutes.

The remainder of the class focuses on dance positions.  The zills (Egyptian hand cymbals) are not taught in the first 8-week class, because it is too much to ask of beginners.  We need to first concentrate on the dance steps without trying to coordinate finger cymbals with hip movements.

 Belly Dance Steps introduced are:

Shoulder slides, Shoulder circles, Hip arches, Hip lifts, Hip twists, Down hips, hip slides, Hip skips, Hip circles, Grapevine step, K-step, Wazi (sideways step), Shimmy in place, Shimmy walks, Back hip shimmy, Paddle turns, Chaine turns, and Rib movements.

Additional Service Added - Private Social Groups & Bridal Parties:

Premiere Social Ballroom is now offering your group of social friends, family or bridal party the opportunity to learn to dance together.  For only 24.95 per person, your group will receive 4 beginner’s Private Group Instruction opportunities (to be completed in 30 days).  We only require a pre-paid registration minimum of 8 participants.  Please call (262) 560-1111 for more details and to make your reservations!

Thought of the Week:

“The good that people can do emanates and multiplies from the good that one person does.” – Lewis Richmond, from his book, A Whole Life’s Work – Living Passionately, Growing Spiritually  That being said, let all of us work together to make the next idea work really BIG!

Breast Cancer Fund Raiser:

On Friday, July 15th, Premiere Social Ballroom will co-host with Mrs. Bridgett O’Hara, a fund raiser to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  This is the same date as our usual 3rd Friday of the Month Social Dance and Potluck Dinner (7:30 – 10:30 p.m.).  This evening’s schedule of events will include a Group Salsa Lesson taught by Miss Angela ThielPlease note the extended time for this special occasion!

Cost:  $3 for members; $8 non-members.  $3 of every ticket benefits the foundation.  Open to the Public, but limited to 100.  Tickets will be available next week, but you may call (262-560-1111) now to reserve your ticket.

In an extra effort to help Bridgett reach her personal goal to raise $10,000 for the 3-Day Event in Chicago, Premiere Social Ballroom will auction a Saturday Night Party Package!  This $600 value entitles the winner to a Saturday Night Party for up to 100 (of your closest friends and family!) and a 45-minute East Coast Swing Group lesson.

Diane designed this course to provide the vocational skills needed to be successful in the ballroom dance industry.  This program is the only one of its kind in the nation, and is the perfect opportunity for anyone who loves dance and is serious about becoming a highly qualified dance instructor. The entire program covers 17 dances.  Each section is a course unto itself, and you may start the program at the beginning of any section.  Diane has agreed to return in two-month increments, as her busy schedule allows, until we are satisfied!

In these workshops at Premiere Social Ballroom, instructors will learn the leader’s and follower's parts of 10-15 figures each in Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing and Viennese Waltz.  You will learn the technical elements from a teacher's perspective and learn to communicate effectively with your students.  The course provides full immersion into the world of ballroom dancing.  For more information about Diane, please visit www.teachballroomdancing.com.  Diane says:  “Follow Your Dreams!  Become a Dance Teacher!”  Employment opportunities are available at Premiere Social Ballroom.
